Cheiro’s Book of Numbers Review

Note: This is a review of the rare 1986 edition of the book.

Firstly, I’d like to thank Liberty Books for not only providing me with one but two Arrow publications of Cheiro’s works namely Language of the Hand and Cheiro’s Book of Numbers.

These gems are available free to read online on sites such as the Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg, etc., but there is just something classic about reading a class rendition of a work and writer you are passionate about.

There are many chapters and in this short review it would be impossible to cover all of them but the basis of the book is Birth Numerology which is the day you are born regardless of the month. For example, you’re born on the 5th of January and your best friend is born on the 14th of May that means that you are a Birth Number 5 (5 + 0 = 5) and your buddy is also a Birth Number 5 (1 + 4 = 5).

But Cheiro’s take of Numerology doesn’t just stop at revealing personality types through dates of birth, but also, he takes into account how these numbers impact our daily lives. His system is quite complex and for the modern viewer I’d suggest watching my favorite Numerology channel Auspicious Numerology where Dr. Sumit Meshram kindly explains these complicated terms in his own simple, laidback way.

Cheiro also wrote this book brilliantly as he was able to transcribe letters which he received from non-celebrities during the time he wrote popular columns in newspapers. At the same time, he gave Numerological accounts of the careers of the American Presidents during pivotal points in their careers such as crucial dates concerning taking seat as President, surviving or not surviving assassination attempts, and other important decisions famous Presidents such as Woodrow Wilson, FDR, etc., made during their respective tenures.

Although, Cheiro’s system utilizes a unique mix of Astrology and Numerology, his work on compound numbers which match with Tarot (which I myself have very less knowledge about) is profound and has never been done before.

Language of the Hand is the most comprehensive study of the art of Palmistry by Cheiro. Likewise, Cheiro’s Book of Numbers is the most all-embracing work in regards to Numerology. This book is about 200 pages in length but its literal scope covers a wide range of topics like Chaldean Numerology which Cheiro states is the most ancient form of Numerology ever written about. Hence, Chaldean Numerology forms the origin point of Numerology itself. He then traces the ancient occult learnings onwards through the Hebrews and all the way till the Bible. How numbers play a crucial role in the numbering of religious texts especially in the latter book.

But, alas, Cheiro’s Book of Numbers is too fatalistic for these modern times. It’s an excellent book for a student but just like the lines on the palm change, so is destiny through Astrology and Numerology not fixed. This is the only flaw I found in this phenomenal piece of occult literature.
