iZombie Season 1 Review – Lit Retreat

Creator Rob Thomas, best known for creating the TV series Veronica Mars, has his trademark written all over iZombie.

The story follows Liv Moore (Rose McIver) who turns into a zombie and works in the morgue for Dr. Ravi (Rahul Kohli). Each episode follows her solving cases with a Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) by eating the brains of victims and gaining their memories as well as their personality traits.

With a fresh premise and intriguing subplots, iZombie is pure fun at each turn. The 13-chapter 1st season delivers interesting climaxes showing a turn for Liv due to her new job as a crime-fighting zombie, and balancing the work with her undead social life.

Still, iZombie suffers from tedious predictability and only Rose McIver, Rahul Kohli and David Anders (the antagonist) perform consistently in each instalment. The rest of the cast’s performances are touch-and-go. Although, the finale was foreseeable, hopefully the next season will be able to outdo its predecessors’ banality.

Season 1 : 3 out of 4.
